Paste the text, click one of ten buttons, copy the result. The text case converter rewrites the box in place as UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case, camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE or aLtErNaTiNg cAsE.
Which spelling a name wants
An API sends user_first_name, and the JavaScript client expects userFirstName. A blog title must become the slug web-tools-suite-for-developers. A setting called "max upload size" goes into an environment file as MAX_UPLOAD_SIZE. Those are the jobs for the code cases. Sentence case has a quieter job: it rescues a paragraph that somebody typed with Caps Lock on.
Where XMLHttpRequest, über and NASA go wrong
The five code cases (camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case, CONSTANT_CASE) split words at these places:
- spaces and line breaks
- any underscore, hyphen or dot
- every step from a lowercase to an uppercase letter, as in
userName
A run of capitals is not split. XMLHttpRequest becomes xmlhttp_request in snake_case, and HTMLParser becomes htmlparser. Other punctuation stays: "hello, world" gives hello,World in camelCase. Line breaks count as spaces, so a list with one name per line turns into a single identifier. Convert such a list line by line.
Title Case is cruder. It capitalizes the first letter of each word and leaves all other letters alone, so a text in capitals stays in capitals. Click lowercase first. It has no list of small words such as "of" or "the", and it knows only A to Z, digits and underscore as word characters. So "über uns" becomes "üBer Uns" and "don't" becomes "Don'T". The code cases cope with accents better: "über uns" gives überUns in camelCase. Accents do stay in a slug, so replace them by hand.
Sentence case lowercases everything first, so NASA turns into "nasa" unless it opens a sentence. It capitalizes the letter after every full stop, which makes "file.txt" into "File.Txt". A sentence that starts with an accented letter stays lowercase. UPPERCASE and lowercase follow the standard JavaScript rules: "straße" becomes "STRASSE", and the ß does not come back.
Alternating case counts every character, spaces included, and starts with a lowercase letter. "web tools" gives "wEb tOoLs".
Four steps with the text case converter
- Type or paste your text into Input text. The box starts with the line "web tools suite for developers and designers".
- Click one of the ten buttons under Conversion actions, for example camelCase (JavaScript).
- The text in the box is replaced at once, and the message "Text converted!" appears. There is no undo. An empty box does nothing.
- Press Copy to put the result on the clipboard, or Clear to empty the box.
Chaining works with the code cases. Click snake_case, then kebab-case, because underscores, hyphens and dots all count as word breaks.
No request, no copy kept
The conversion runs as JavaScript in your browser tab. A click sends no request, and the network panel of your browser shows nothing. The tool saves the text nowhere. Copy writes to the clipboard, and nothing is downloaded.
