One PDF, up to 300 MB. The file stays on your device.

Only pages 7 to 9 of a 60-page report are meant for the client. To split a PDF, you load it here, type the pages, and download a new file that holds just those three. The original stays as it is.

Five ways to split a PDF

Extract pages makes one PDF from the pages you type, in the order you type them, so 3, 1 gives page 3 first and page 1 second. One file for each range turns every comma-separated part into its own PDF: 1-3, 5, 8- creates three files. Split every N pages cuts the document into equal parts and the last part is shorter if the pages do not divide evenly. Every page as its own file needs no input at all. Remove pages keeps everything except the pages you type, and it stops with a message if nothing would be left.

What you can type in the page field

Pages count from 1. Write single pages (5), ranges (2-6) and open ranges: 8- runs to the last page, -4 starts at page 1. A range such as 5-3 counts down. Commas, semicolons and spaces all separate the parts. If a part is wrong, the plan below the controls names it and tells you how many pages the PDF has.

From the dropped file to the download

  1. Drop a PDF on the field or press Enter on it to open the file picker.
  2. Check name, size and page count, then pick a mode in the list.
  3. Type the pages or the number. The plan shows the exact file names that the run will create.
  4. Press Split PDF and wait for the progress line to finish.
  5. Press Download PDF for one file, or Download ZIP for several.

Passwords, bookmarks and what the new files lose

If the PDF is encrypted, a password field appears. The tool does not bypass encryption: a wrong password gives an error message. The new files are not encrypted, and they carry none of the permission limits of the source, so keep that in mind before you share them.

Each new file contains the page content, the page size, the rotation and the annotations on its pages. Bookmarks, interactive form fields and document properties such as the title are not copied. The producer field of every output file reads WebTools Pro.

Where the file goes while you work

The browser reads the file into memory. The tool never sends it anywhere. The only network request is for the PDF library code, from this site, when you open the first file. You can check this in the network panel of your browser.

The tool checks the first 1,024 bytes for the PDF marker, so a text file renamed to .pdf is refused. A PDF can be up to 300 MB. One run creates at most 500 files, and the tool pauses briefly between files to keep the page responsive. The ZIP is stored without compression.
