A QR code generator whose Wi-Fi codes carry the password in plain text
Scan a Wi-Fi code with any phone camera and the password appears on the screen. Nothing is hidden or encrypted inside the pattern. This QR code generator builds such patterns from five kinds of input: Wi-Fi, link, email, phone number and free text. The code redraws on every keystroke, so you see the result before you click anything.
What each type writes into the code
For Wi-Fi you enter the network name and the password. WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 stays selected unless your network is open. Tick "Hidden SSID" only if the router does not broadcast its name. Choose "None (open Wi-Fi)" and the password field switches off.
The email type builds a mailto: link with subject and message already filled in. The phone type strips spaces, dashes and brackets, so +49 170 1234567 becomes tel:+491701234567. The line "Generated QR payload" under the preview shows the exact text and a character count, for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyWiFi;P:secret;;. Read it before you print.
When the text does not fit, the old code stays on screen
The tool stores your text as UTF-8 bytes and picks the smallest version from 1 to 40 that holds it. Version 40 takes about 2,950 bytes at error correction L and about 1,270 bytes at H. An umlaut costs two bytes, an emoji four.
If the text is too long, the toast "Text is too long for the selected error correction!" appears. The preview keeps the last valid code, and the download buttons still export that old code. An empty field falls back to the sample address https://tools.local.
Colors, file size and print size
- Colors must be six-digit hex values such as
#0f172a. The tool does not check contrast, and some scanners fail on light-on-dark codes. - The SVG holds one rectangle per dark module, so a dense code gives a large file.
- Use the SVG for print. A PNG of 1024 px covers about 8.7 cm at 300 DPI, and 2048 px about 17 cm.
- The codes are static: no logo, no dot shapes, no scan statistics.
What stays in your browser tab
JavaScript in the tab calculates the code. Typing, changing options and clicking the buttons send no request, which you can confirm in the Network panel of your developer tools. PNG and SVG are saved as normal downloads, and "Copy SVG code" writes to the clipboard.
From sample values to a saved file
- Pick a type with the buttons at the top. Wi-Fi is active when the page opens.
- Overwrite the placeholders.
https://tools.localand the dummy password belong to nobody. - Check the payload line, then adjust colors, error correction (L, M, Q or H), margin and PNG resolution if needed.
- Click "Download as PNG", "Download as SVG (vector)" or "Copy SVG code".
