Generated filler text

A lorem ipsum generator for layouts that wait on copy

The card grid is approved on Monday. The copywriter delivers on Friday. Until then, each card needs text that looks real enough to judge line length and spacing. The lorem ipsum generator fills that gap in your browser: pick paragraphs, sentences or words, move the slider, and the output box changes at once.

Typical tests are small. Put three paragraphs into an email template. Generate 20 sentences to see where a CMS breaks a page. Ask for 8 or 12 words to find out how a button label or a table cell wraps.

Five steps from slider to clipboard

  1. Choose the unit in the first menu: Paragraphs, Sentences or Words.
  2. Set the amount with the slider. The text is rebuilt while you drag.
  3. Pick the vocabulary: Classic Latin or English filler text.
  4. Switch on Wrap in <p> HTML tags if the text goes into a template.
  5. Press Copy, or download filler-text.txt. Regenerate draws a new random text with the same settings.

With the HTML switch on, every paragraph gets its own <p>, with a blank line between paragraphs. In Sentences mode every sentence is wrapped alone. In Words mode all words share one tag.

What 20 means in each unit

The slider runs from 1 to 20 and starts at 3. The top value is the same in all three units, so Words gives you 20 words at most. A sentence has 8 to 19 words. A paragraph has 4 to 7 sentences. Twenty paragraphs therefore come to about 1,500 words. For more, copy one batch and generate the next.

One fixed sentence, then dice

Latin text is drawn at random from a list of 62 words. Words repeat, and no passage is real. Each sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period. The only commas appear in the fixed opening sentence, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua."

The switch Starts with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." is on at the start. It puts that sentence first, but only with Classic Latin and only in Paragraphs or Sentences mode. English filler text and Words mode ignore it. Words mode returns bare lowercase words with no period.

Any change to a control replaces the whole output, and the box is read-only. Copy a text you like before you touch the slider again.

No network call, nothing saved

JavaScript builds the text in your browser. Regenerate sends no request, and the network panel of your browser stays quiet. Copy uses the browser clipboard. The .txt file is created on the page, not uploaded.
